Amid the job recession and job cuts fears in US and India ( of course the world over), here are some official figures from Ministry of Labour & Employment India about what the current job registration and employment situation is in Indian Employment Exchanges:
EMPLOYED PERSONS REGISTERD WITH EMPLOYMENT EXCHANGES
As per latest information available, 39.97 million job seekers, all of whom may not necessarily be unemployed, are registered with employment exchanges in the country as on 31.12.2007.
Employment Exchanges sponsor candidates against the vacancies notified by employers of both public and private sectors. About 2.64 lakh placements have been effected through the employment exchanges as on 31.12.2007.
A Mission Mode Project for upgradation and Modernization of Employment Exchanges has been taken up under National e-goverence plan to make them more demand responsive
This information was given by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Shri Oscar Fernandes in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
